The Pend Oreille Basin Commission, also known as the "Lakes Commission," is based in Sandpoint, Idaho. To learn more about the make up and/or mission of the Commission, please visit the "About Us" page. New news? Well we moved into a stellar new office in the Power House (located at 120 East Lake Street, Suite 301 in Sandpoint). You are more than welcome to stop in and visit, but please call ahead as office hours are subject to change depending on the week's activites; regular office hours can be difficult with just one part-time staffer. Our last meeting was held on May 27, 2009. Meeting topics included: 1) a presentation on USACE substrate monitoring for invasive mussels; 2) a legislative update on aquatic invasive species policies ; 3) a presentation on the Lake Pend Oreille aquifer recharge feasiblity study; 4) an update on Lake*A*Syst efforts; 5) information on some IDL permit applications; 6) an update on invasive species in the Flathead (headwaters of the entire Columbia system); and 6) update on board projects. Our next meeting be held in August 2009 in Sandpoint. Potential agenda items include a presentation on the five year water quality trends of Lake Pend Oreille and updates on board projects. Please stay tuned. We do have an annual meeting calendar now (relatively consistent schedule!), though it does depend on the schedules of the Commissioners and our guest speakers. Allegedly, we will be meeting for subsequent meetings the second Wednesdays of the months of February, May, August, and November for quarterly sessions. Though this calendar is a tentative schedule for our meetings, the dates are subject to change. We encourage you to attend! See our staff/contact us page and email/call to sign up for our notifications or to get more information. Or try our new "feedback" option! How can you get involved in Idaho's water issues?
